3 Ideas For Outdoor Living Areas

Home & Garden Blog

Are you a homeowner who is looking to renovate your backyard for next year? Do you want to create an outdoor living space but you're at a loss for ideas? Creating an outdoor living space is a great way to expand the usable area of your home without spending a ton of money on adding more indoor space to the house. Since you may not have to deal with things like getting building permits or pouring more foundation, you can save both time and money. Some ideas you can use to expand the living space include:

Install an awning: When creating an outdoor space, putting up a roof of some kind is often a priority. Most people will immediately conclude that they should install a more permanent porch roof. But residential awnings have one major advantage over a permanent installation: they can be pulled back as necessary. On days that are cool, you can retract residential awnings to allow more sun to reach the area below. Being able to do this can greatly expand the number of usable days for your living space. Also, retracting residential awnings allows you to have a fire burning below without having to worry about the potential of a roof being damaged by the flames.

Firepit as a focus: In your living room, most of your seating is likely arranged to face your television. Outside, shift the focus to a fire pit or a grilling area. This need not be large but should be able to be used year-round. In summer, a small fire can be used for roasting marshmallows and making smores or for grilling dinner when it's too hot to cook outside. During the winter, a larger fire in the same space could allow for outdoor gatherings even when it would otherwise be too cold outside.

Don't forget storage: Whether you just want to hide extra seating when not in use or you use it on a regular basis for storing a variety of tools, don't forget that additional storage may be necessary for your new space. Before even thinking about installing residential awnings or anything else, take a few moments to figure out exactly what you'll be needing to store and when. If you like to host garden parties, for instance, you may need more room to store additional folding furniture as opposed to a relatively small space if you simply need to protect your grill tools from the elements.

Creating A Gorgeous Home

After struggling for years, I finally scored my dream job and started to focus on redecorating my home. At first, I wasn't sure how much of an impact I was going to be able to make, but after sitting down and really focusing on the different areas of my house, it was clear to me that the main living spaces were where I needed to focus. I started working room by room to renovate the space, and it was absolutely amazing to see what we were able to accomplish. This blog is all about creating a gorgeous home--even if you are on a tight budget.
